Shallow Quantum Circuits

Welcome to the website of Markus Heinrich. I am a senior researcher at the University of Cologne, interested in wide range of topics in quantum information and quantum computing connected to understanding the power and limitations of near-term quantum devices.

As a major tool, we are using random quantum circuits to better understand the generic expressitivity of shallow quantum circuits. We are combining these insights with tensor networks to make existing approaches more efficient and scalable. For more details on my research, click here.

The second Workshop on Random Quantum Circuits will take place from 17 to 21 August 2026 in Cologne and is organized by Jonas Helsen, Jonas Haferkamp, Xhek Turkeshi, and me.
